He had been married once before, to GMTV relationship therapist Simone Bienne, who told friends she was ‘mentally and physically assaulted’ by her husband. Those that know him believe his life began to unravel following the death of his father from a brain tumour 15 years ago. He may have met a squalid end but Monjack had a good start in life. One London woman lost £200,000 investing in one of his many disastrous ‘film’ projects. He owed Coutts bank £400,000, had several other large debts, and had been accused of credit card fraud. Monjack already had a reputation as a crook when he met Brittany in 2006 at a party in LA. But after she died, the man who was nicknamed ‘Conjack’ became hard to avoid - but for all the wrong reasons. The name Simon Monjack was not well known at all before Brittany’s untimely death last year. ‘My dad and I feel the same way we are sad for my sister but not for him.’Īn actress former friend of Brittany, who asked not to be named, says: ‘It’s sad that Simon died at the age of 40, but anyone who knew him - and especially the effect he had on Brittany - is not sad for the loss. 'When are people going to open their eyes about what was going on there? That’s two people that have died living in that house within six months. ‘He tried to keep my father’s name off her death certificate. Meanwhile, Brittany’s half brother, Tony Bertolotti, says he was not troubled by the death of the man who ‘helped kill my sister’. It got more and more dysfunctional, until it finally killed Brittany. ‘Their relationship was so destructive it was like they were both waiting to die and just poisoning themselves. ‘He was a full-blown drug addict by the time they were married, with not many prospects, and when she died he felt he had no reason for living. He struggled with depression for much of his life, and he felt like Brittany was the only thing he had to live for. ‘People always say it’s a tragedy when someone dies, but in this case it’s more of a blessing,’ says Eric Ziegenbein, a former friend of Brittany. ![]() His devastated mother Linda claims he died of a ‘broken heart’, while Brittany’s mother Sharon - who discovered both bodies - is said to be inconsolable.īut British-born Monjack, who was 40, leaves behind very few other people who are genuinely shocked or even saddened by his untimely demise. Like his wife, who died five months before, he was surrounded by bottles and bottles of prescription drugs. She was tipped for great things before she fell victim to the dark side of Hollywood, becoming hooked on prescription drugs and growing painfully thin due to her eating disorders.Īlthough it is too early for a post mortem, it is believed that Monjack died of heart failure.
